Bismillahirrahmanirrahim~
Oh yes people! It’s that time of the year again. Kind enough to lift up your face from the book and lend us a sec? Now we know you may pretty well be in the middle of mountains of books or piles of papers or the fact that i-am-stuck-with-this-laptop-finishing-my-assignments and not to forget the calculators be it graphic or a normal casio 750 (eheh), but lets take a minute to just give some nourishment to our souls, shall we? Hee.
“Nor shall they compass Aught of his knowledge Except as He willeth” [2:255]
Asserts the fact that no one attains any part of Allah’s knowledge except what Allah conveys and allows. This part of the Ayah indicates that no one ever acquires knowledge of Allah and in His Attributes, except what He conveys to them.
Sounds familiar? This is an ayah from the Holy Qur’an, ayatul Kursi. And it speaks on its own, doesn’t it? Every single bit of knowledge in this whole wide world belongs to Him, and what we are learning right now, is just a teeny weeny small drop of a huge, endless ocean. He owns all in this world, and He controls each of it. Think about this: even if we go to classes every single day, focus our eyes ears mouth toes (!!) to the lecturers speaking in front of the class, without Allah’s will, the knowledge would not stay in our hearts. Hearts? Yea, hearts. Here’s a song by Talib alHabib, “Knowledge is light” with a verse that goes like this,
The great Imam ash-Shafi’,
he went to his teacher Waki`
Complaining about the weakness of his memory.
He told him, ‘abandon rebellion,
for knowledge is a light
and the light of Allah is not bestowed upon a rebel.’
The light of Allah
knowledge is light~
So what about it? Back to basics – of sunatullah and syariatullah. Study hard+smart; give it your best – yes, that’s the formula to success. But as Muslims, we have something extra. We have our hearts to keep purified, in all aspects of life, including studies. Keep Him happy, do what He says and abandon rebellion, so that the light comes into our heart; insyallah. Above all, believe, that Allah has ultimate control of everything, which is tawakkal ‘alaAllah.
“And if any one puts his trust in Allah, sufficient is (Allah) for him” [65:3]
By having this in our hearts, whatever lies in front of us, we know that it is surely the best for us, as He has the best plans of all (read: the long awaited results! ngaa~). So tawakkal, not just after we’ve finished with our exams and waiting anxiously for that my-future-is-in-this-script, but earlier on, from the beginning of our studies. For we know, that it is all upon His will. Finally, just something to share, a duaa which insyallah will be for the good of us all:
… Allahumma infa’nii bimaa ‘allamtanii wa’allimnii maa yanfa’uunii …
Oh Allah! Make useful for me what you have taught me and teach me knowledge that will be useful to me
